Abstract

Papaya leaves are plants that contain alkaloids. Alkaloid compound in papaya leaves used to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria that cause diarrhea. This research aims to find the effect of papaya leaves extract on the inhibitory growth of Escherichia coli bacteria and to find out at what concentration papaya leaves extract has the highest inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli bacterial growth. This research is an experimental laboratory study to see the antibacterial activity of papaya leaves extract at various concentrations, which are 25%, 50%, 75%. Making papaya leaves extract by using the maceration method with 96% ethanol. The antibacterial activity test of papaya leaves extract was carried out in vitro using the disk disc diffusion (ga paham maksud bhs indonya jd ga yakin translatenya so sorry) method to Escherichia coli for 24 hours and incubated at 37ºC and measured inhibitory power (mm). The inhibition obtained was then analyzed using the One Way ANOVA statistical method The results showed that papaya leaves extract could inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria by showing the inhibition power. The effectiveness of papaya leaves extract is the most optimal to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria at concentrate 75% with an inhibitory value of 8.33 mm which is closer to the value of the positive control inhibition (10.21 mm) compared to the other concentrations. The results showed that papaya leaf extract at a concentration of 75% had the highest inhibitory ability against Escherichia coli among other concentrations.
